» Newbie Question about Blurry Photos

I am an amateur photographer who is aspiring to get great results with my digital camera. I own a Digital Rebel XT (I love this camera) with standard zoom lens. The problem is--it is very difficult to get perfectly clear shots without using a tripod and a static subject. At first I thought my hand was too shaky--but I didn't remember having had this much trouble with my 35mm camera. Even when I dialed my ISO to 800+--I had issues. My other concern with blurry or soft photos was "not enough light". However, I have the same problems in outdoor/daylight pictures. I understand the basic ideas of F-Stops and Shutter Speeds (even though I think this is where my problem lies). I feel like I can't just shoot a picture like I did with my 35mm. I lov...... - 2009-07-04

» Student Loans?

I'm a rising senior, and I plan on applying for the MEXT Undergraduate Scholarship when I graduate in 2008. I'm having a hard time getting my parents to warm up to the idea of me studying overseas, especially as an undergraduate, and I think a lot of it has to do with financial issues. From what I've researched, MEXT seems to have the best scholarship, but to apply for it, you cannot have any other scholarship. My question is, how do you get students loans for international study?? Can you? Any past recipients of the scholarship, please share your experiences!I've never heard of the idea of student loans in Japan - everyone I know pays full up front. If you go through an accredited University study aboad program, you can use your nomal stud...... - 2009-07-04

» Detailed Stock Information

I am trying to find detailed stock data for the last few years (the longer, the better). It is easy to find charts, but is there a way to get detailed data in an accesible format (ie, CSV or anything that you work with, not just some proprietary format) that shows stock prices for a range of stocks (the more the better) for the last few years? And preferably, the ability to get detailed information for throughout the day, not just the closing price. If you want these things; chances are you will have to pay for it. For intraday prices, thebest source is a bloomberg terminal. For good data over the year (assuming you want more than 5 or so which is easy to find) you should try the Wharton WRDS database. I get really awful headaches and want to try and cut down how many painkillers i take so if you know of any alternatives please let me know (and the sooner the better cause i think im dying of one now =[) xMy husband takes Maxalt and Imitrex for his headaches. The Maxalt he takes is sublingual and works fast....drawback is that it's expensive. Our insurance doesn't cover it so check with your insurance company before you purchase it. He also went to see a Neurologist for his migraines. He put him on Topamax to try to keep the migraines from happening (prophylaxis). He uses the Maxalt and Imitrex if he has breakthrough headaches. All of these medications are non narcotic. Good luck, hope this helps!!!Headaches can be triggered if ...... - 2009-07-04

» shooting mars and the moon

Hello all, just joined the forum and have a shoot im looking for input about. First off, to baseline myself, i would rank my equipment at the beginner level, a cannon AE-1, 28mm wide angle, 50mm standard, and a 70-250 zoom lens, a sturdy tripod that i dont normally use, and the all important lucky camera bag ;) nothing too fancy. Skill level is of course subjective, but id say that with the proper equipment its safe to say i could regularly do sucessful shows and maybe even make a living. I typically shoot abandoned homes, farms, barns, machines, industrial equipment, landscape and a few portrait shots from time to time. Im looking to try something signifigantly new, for those who havent heard on august 27th, mars will be the clo...... - 2009-07-04

» SOY !! ... Soy Milk, I just watched a documentary saying that soy is not great but bad for you ?

I've been hearing a lot about this too.. I remember Dr. Oz from Oprah saying that it was bad for you as well.. Then my sister's personal trainer said that it was bad for your health and to drink rice milk as a substitute, instead. Rice milk is delicious!Well, some scientists and nutritionists say soy can cause cancer. I think that is ridiculous. Would it be a vegeterian/vegan or a person that eats fast food every day that gets cancer? You be the judge. Soy products contain a chemical similar to estrogen, the female hormone, so it's not the most healthful thing to consume. It can cause weight gain in females and males, but unless your drinking two cartons of soy milk a day I don't think anything bad will happen. If you...... - 2009-07-04

» 40D reliability?

I was eagerly waiting reviews of the 450D when browsing through the Canon UK outlet on ebay for refurbished SLRs I did a search for the 40D. There was not a single one listed current nor completed sales in last 10 days. When I did a search for the 400D there are 17 currently listed and 51 completed in last 10 days. This suggests that the 40D is VERY reliable against the 400D somewhat UNRELIABLE! What do owners think of either model? I wonder if the extra premium on the 40D would be a good buy against the 450D? Any comments appreciatedI'm not sure that it's a matter or reliability. The 400D has been out for a little while longer and is in the lower price bracket...which might explain why there are more on the used market. As an entry...... - 2009-07-04

» Rapidograph Pens... Worth it?

I am an artist, and i was starting to get interested in technical pen drawing, but i wanted to know are they worth it for the price? they seem really expensiveOH YES!!! I have them since high school, they're totally worth it. I used to write, draw, sketch, poke - everything with them. Though, they need a special care in order to last long. Wash them, always keep them vertical when draw, and use only specialized ink. Only thing that tells the opposite is that technical drawing will be computerized in future. Cheers! They're great pens. I have a set, but I haven't used them in a long time. The main problem with them is that if you don't use them frequently, the tips will dry up and clog, and they're not easy to cle...... - 2009-07-04

» Is a 132 out of 300 on the PSAT's good? ?

I think its above-average from what I hear... I mean I wasnt exactly shooting for the National Merit Scholarship. Does this mean I'm gonna suck on the SAT's? Actually it is out of 240 not 300. In the actual SAT's you would most likely get a a 460 on verbal, a 390 on math, and a 470 on writing. Your estimated scores can change of course if you're not a junior yet or if you really study for the SAT's. Oh and I think you already know this, but I'll say it anyways- On the SAT's you would have received around a 1320 out of 2400.Here's the national average scores: http://www.satprivatetutor.com/PSATScore... » 6/6/06 REPORTS: CO/NM/AZ

I'm starting a thread for the mountain states region because the activity in this area seems separate from that occurring in the IA, WI, and IL. If mods prefer to combine threads, feel free to do so. I saw an interesting feature in the Santa Fe, NM area today as a cluster of thunderstorms moved in. As can be seen in the picture below, it looked a lot like the dust devils that commonly occur in this area, http://www.siue.edu/~jfarley/IMG_2642e-cr-s.jpg When I noticed this, it was already in the dissipating stage, as indicated by the rather diffuse nature of it near the ground but the tighter, vertical column higher up. Now, ordinarily, I would consider this kind of feature in this area to be a dust devil. But in this case, as can be s...... - 2009-07-04

» I'm under 18 in MA, but my job still takes taxes out of my check?

is that right, is there anyway that I can get that money back?Liability for income taxes is based upon your income, not your age. In fact, if you are a dependent you'll generally pay HIGHER taxes than someone who is not a dependent since you lose your personal exemption and therefore will have higher taxable income. You'll only get a refund if more tax was withheld that your tax liability. On your Federal return, if your income as a dependent is over $5,450 then you will have some tax liability and won't get it all back. MA starts taxing you at a lower level so the threshold there will be lower. The FICA and Medicare taxes withheld are not refundable. Everyone has to pay those. You're welcome. What do you think? Is the earth and its history 10,000 years old, that's the issue. It matters when people try to teach children to ignore facts and deny science to maintain their faith. That's why the U.S. doesn't allow public schools to teach Christian beliefs except in the context of comparing religions and philosophies. » First Portrait Shoot--Nervous!

lStay away from cliche poses like forearm covering boobs. Start by throwing on a relatively wide-angle lens and get in pretty close-- it breaks the ice. Have plenty of film ready if you shoot it. Go over the shots a thousand times in your head if you have particular things you're looking for. Otherwise she can do her thing if she's a proper model and you won't have to direct quite as much. I had someone ask me last weekend..."well then how will I know if I'm giving you the pose you want?" and I said, "Because you'll hear the shutter fire." Keep a conversation going. Don't pause for too long, it will give the impression that you've lost interest. Pay very very close attention to where light falls...no splotchy shadows. No parallel shoulders....... - 2009-07-04

» Hunchback singing a song in a Sean Connery film

In the film "The Name of the Rose", there’s a crucifixion scene where the hunchback, as the cross is getting burned, starts singing this foreign song. The song does not appear to be on the soundtrack album. What’s the name of this song, and where can I get a copy?Just in case this helps someone along (although I doubt it will :) From IMDB: http://us.imdb.com/Title?0091605 The hunchback's name is Salvatore. The actor's name is Ron Perlman: http://us.imdb.com/Name?Perlman,%20Ron That's a tough question. » My niece has a Fever of a 102 and no symptoms, but it keeps going away and coming back what could it be?

My niece was the same way this week. Fever on and off and we couldn't figure out what was causing it. My sister took her to the ER and it turned out to be a urine infection. You might want to check that. We would have never thought of that being that she is only 5, but she is doing a lot better now. Most likely just a virus...both my children have had this and it can last 5-7 days. See the doctor just incase. Tylenol and Ibuprophin can be used together to keep the fever down. At different times, 2-3 hours apart. Ibuprophin works much better and lasts longer if you dont feelcomfortable giving both but its ok. Keep giving the fever meds, if the fever spikes to high she could get a febrile seisure.A fever that spikes, and comes and...... - 2009-07-04

I know that the Noachides are sort of non-Jews who observe some of the Jewish way of life and are promised a place in the world to come, even though they are not fully-fledged Jews. Hey guys, I just finished a lesson with e-japanese.co.uk, and it was really really good. Up until now I had been using text books and random websites and stuff to try and self teach myself, and it worked to an extent, but I'm glad I found E-Japanese. They do these live lessons, just me and a teacher. I payed for an hour lesson for £9, which was a good bargain compared to other companies who offer similar services. They have a free trial lesson too, as of my understanding. They're quite new I think, so I said I'd try and give them support. I don't mean to be advertising, and if I am and it's against the rules of the forum I'm sorry, but I do think it would be useful for people on this forum. How soon do you think I should be looking for a new host (and a dedicated server)?I _heard_ people say load average should be 1:1, 1 load per 1 cpu core. Because they did not believe in the Roman Gods.Yes, they were the heretics of their day back then. The didn't believe in the same god concepts which were predominately polytheistic. Some Romans who felt their beliefs were entirely alien and out of alignment labeled them atheists although it was not accurate. They did believe in a god just a very different concept. They also called them cannibals due to their beliefs about eating the body of Christ and drinking his blood.
