AdWords problem
  • What might be problems with auctioning off keywords from the users' perspective?

  • Dear smueller, The problems involved could be "buying out" of links, and in other ways of distracting users' attention from opposing views. An example for that was vivid with the latest Hutton Enquiry Report, where the BBC, according to the Guardian, bought AdWords related to the term. Being a side in the conflict with the government, and one of those investigated in the report, that meant that there is distortion of the results and maybe also of the framing of the reality preceived through this lense. In addition, popular search terms that are subjected to auctioneering, might create a condition whereas there is no "free" competition on the space - it is reserved to the more powerful bodies, who could afford it.
