Front end shakes at 55 mph on my 1999 chevy malibu?
  • Hi folks I have a 1999 chevy malibu the front end shakes when getting up to 55 mph Could this be tires or allinement. Please help.

  • check you tires the tie inner and outter tire rods and aliment and the wheel bearing and cv joint. good luck

  • Sounds like an alignment is needed. Shaking usually starts around 55+.

  • Could be a slipped belt in a tire or maybe you dropped a wheelweight. Warped brake rotors would cause a wobble when braking. Could be tie-rod ends. Jack it up and try to wiggle the tire and see if it has play anywhere.

  • tires out of balance. or anything else, for that matter, in the rotating assembly.

if it's during braking, it's brake pulsation caused by warped rotors

  • bad tire

  • The more likely reason is something loose or worn out in the front end. Tie rods, or stabilizer arms, maybe even loose lug nuts.

Shaking at that speed is DANGEROUS. You could loose a tire or have the weak part break at that speed and have an out of control car.

Please, take it to a dependable shop ASAP!
