My niece has a Fever of a 102 and no symptoms, but it keeps going away and coming back what could it be?
  • My niece was the same way this week. Fever on and off and we couldn't figure out what was causing it. My sister took her to the ER and it turned out to be a urine infection. You might want to check that. We would have never thought of that being that she is only 5, but she is doing a lot better now.

  • it happens -cooling measures are best. dress her in light jammies with socks and use a thin blanket, give her lotsa fluids -popsicles are great, if she acts fussy give her advil or tylenol.

  • My little ten year old cousin also had a fever of 102 for weeks it was comming and going and her muscles were very sore here it was caused from a bruise that created a abcest that wrapped around her muscle and because it was seeping into her body it gave he a bacterial STAPH infection in her blood... She was also very pale if it lasts more than a week I would see a doctor ASAP... It could be very serious problem and if childrens motrin dont do anything for the fever get her to a doctor... As well as if she is very pale and tired those are the symptoms my lil cuz had...

  • Most likely just a virus...both my children have had this and it can last 5-7 days. See the doctor just incase. Tylenol and Ibuprophin can be used together to keep the fever down. At different times, 2-3 hours apart. Ibuprophin works much better and lasts longer if you dont feelcomfortable giving both but its ok. Keep giving the fever meds, if the fever spikes to high she could get a febrile seisure.

  • Probably an infection of some kind. Definately should be checked out. Fevers are important. My daughter has had FOUR Febrile convulsions due to fevers that spiked with out my knowlege that she was even sick or that she even had a fever. It spikes that fast. You don't ever want to see one. Even though they are not life threatening, and there's no lasting damage done by them, they are terrifying. Nothing to play with. 102 isn't exactly a slight temp either. 99 would be slight. 102 is high. Not the highest it can be of course, but high enough to spike through the roof completely unexpectedly. I know I'm going on about the convulsion (seizures) But I'm not sure how many people know about them. None of my friends with kids had heard of them until my daughter had one. It happens randomly to any child at any time under the age of 5-7 (I've heard different ages when she will grow out of it) It can happen once, twice, always, never. Also, the infection could be serious. The sooner you catch it, the sooner you can treat it. Fever is usually the first sign of infection, so that's probably why there's no symptoms. . . yet. Good Luck

  • A fever that spikes, and comes and goes is a classic sign of an infection somewhere in the body. Please take her to be seen at a medical facility. Inspect her body for cuts, which would mean she could have a staph infection. She could have a bladder infection, strep throat, mono, meningitis, etc. If she does have an infection it would be very dangerous if it were to enter her bloodstream and cause sepsis, so it would be a good idea to get it checked out!
