Recipe help please!...................?
im making a cake and the recipe calls for 1/4 cups shortening. if i substitute shortening with butter, how much butter do i use?I would use the same. just remember that butter has salt so you may want to cut down or omit the salt in the recipe. usually by half.Good answers - I do use equal parts, too - but when in doubt, here's a website that I use when I'm not sure about substitutions. (Or search "baking substitutions).
http://www.joyofbaking.com/IngredientSub...Generally the same amount of butter/margarine. But expect your cake to be a little bit on the 'denser' side. shortening is a form of fat/lard. so yo can sub. butter because that to is the same but made from cream instead of a vegatable. use the same amountI would use the same amount of butter

Happy Thanksgiving :-)You can use the same amount of butter. No big deal.
