Watership down movie?
  • does anyone else thinks it's creepy! it actually still scares me and i'm now 16, scared me when i was about 5 or whenever i watched it, but it's pretty scarey to say it's for little kids! anyone agree :) any opinions are welcome! :D even ones saying i'm sad cause i still get scared at the age of 16 lol.

  • It was rather scary for a childrens film. Hardly full of joy!

  • I remember the starting animation freaked me out! I bought it on DVD recently and though it doesn't scare me now, I can see why it freaked me out at the time. It's a very dark story.

  • Not creepy but very sad. I still cry when I hear "Bright Eyes" and I am nearly 39!

But Keehar (sp?) the gull was brilliant. "Beeg Vahter" We had to read the book in school and loved the bits where he swears - we could swear in class and not get told off!!! Result!

  • its a brill film tho i was scared 2 when i was a kid i liked the seagull the best he was sooooo funny!! thanks 4 the memory takes me right back .i 36 now :( lol

  • sure is creepy, try his Plague Dogs just as eerie in parts.

  • i agree ! i used to be scared of it when i was little but i still amm now
The storyline is creepy and so are the characters...It even made me scared of rabbits when i was little Lol
But the song : bright eyes .. still makes me cry sometimes Lol

  • I've always thought it's actually not really meant for young children.

Although it's a animation, it's a very dark and real subject- politics, social status, freedom, oppression, just that its told through the medium of animated rabbits.

    It's a great book.

    A great film too.

Having said all that though, children's books/programmes are pretty non-educational now, all fluffy crap without even proper language sometimes !(telletubbies etc) when they used to not only entertain, but teach 'life lessons' etc.
But they used to have a back bone ... and be rather scary. Just look at the Original Fairy Stories; pretty gruesome stuff.

Animation is simply a medium; it's not strictly for children.
In-fact when Disney made Snow White it scared a lot of the adult audiences, and Snow White was one of only two animated films to rank in the American Film Institutes's list of the 100 greatest American films of all time.
Then you have such films as When the Wind Blows and Animal Farm etc...
Animation can sometimes be stronger than your old 16/32mm film as you can realy draw(excuse the pun) your audience in with the right script and soundtrack...

    I'll stop babbelling now..!

  • yes its scary im 27 with 4 kids and i wont let them watch it .so im in all agreement with you

  • it does scare you but it also makes you cry ..

  • i like it. it was real

  • This film is scary and sad - whatever age you are. It's very dark and was meant to be - to make people think. I still get really melancholy when i hear the theme music - and i'm 42!
