What happens in a mandatory court hearing?
  • The other day I accidently rolled through a stop sign. I made the effort to stop, but I came up on it too fast. Of course a cop saw me and because I was nervous and running extremely late, I just went with it thinking I would show up to the court hearing and dispute it or at least try to get my fine reduced. Today I got a letter in the mail stating I am required to attend a mandatory court hearing. I've only had one other ticket(speeding) and that didn't happen with that. I'm a little nervous. Is this normal? My husband thinks I'm going to get probation or something. Does anyone know how much that kind of ticket might cost me? Thanks in advance!

  • Mandatory means that you must appear before the court.
One speeding ticket, (How long ago?)
I accidentally rolled through a stop sign?
I made the effort to stop?
Of course a cop saw me?
I was running late and went with it?

Based upon the above, the officer may have thought you were blowing off the severity of the offense and your being stopped for running a stop sign as insignificant?
I cannot figure out, how you make an effort to stop but; yet did not stop, then rolled through a stop sign?
Many call this a California stop, tap the brakes and keep on going.
Some states or towns, frown upon this action as totally or blatantly disobeying a law to stop as posted.

  • It can cost you maybe 100-300 dollars.
